In our forty fifth episode, we talk about the Oculus Rift pre-order pricing, PSVR, Vive Pre, super powers in VR, some non-VR games we’ve played lately, Windlands, user feedback, and Gear VR
I’m one of those people who consider it a triumph if I still have $3 in my account at the end of the month. That being said, I still pre ordered the CV1 without hesitation. I’ve known the consumer headset was coming for over a year and that the all in price was going to be high(saved a good sized chunk of cash little by little). It cost me $685 US, higher by about $100 than I expected. As a result I had to buy a 970 instead of a 980. I feel the extra cost was worth it. As a DK2 owner I can say with certainty that it wasn’t good enough for a lot of my friends. I got a lot of “Wow that’s cool” followed by ” It makes my eyes feel weird” then “I’ve had enough”. Only 2 of them we so impressed they ordered one for themselves. It sucks that people outside of the USA are getting hit so hard by shipping and taxes, but there’s not much a small US based company can do about it. Facebook is huge but they don’t ship product, so no help there. I hope you continue to work on VR games. With the cost out there now I imagine a lot of Devs are changing their strategy. Hopefully there will be enough money in it to keep the good ones out of the red.
